BODY IMAGE THERAPY

a safe space for introspection & healing

How much is your self-hate costing you?

You may be like many of us who have spent too much time watering the weeds. We live in a media-saturated world riddled with carefully curated photos of the instagram-worthy vacations, contorted poses, and perfected faces. We spend our days scrolling through our feeds, flipping on the TV, walking through the mall, or maybe even spending time with our own families and are exposed to the unrealistic and unattainable beauty standard that society has perpetuated.

You may hate your body or believe it needs to be hidden because you deem it unacceptable. A study from 2018 has proven you aren’t alone, you aren’t the only one that feels confused and deceived. Psychologists at Flinders University found “use of social networking sites is associated with body image and disordered eating” (Holland & Tiggemann, 2018).

Are you ready to unlearn the hate you’ve been taught about your body?

You deserve to feel heard and understood in a safe space without judgment

You may feel hopeless, you may feel that change isn’t possible or that the guilt, shame, or anxiety are weighing too heavy. I can’t make the emotions disappear but I can continue to bring them into the room so you can learn their names and why they are here.

These walls that have kept you safe for so long have at the same time imprisoned you.  You can create a life where numbness, running, hiding, and shame aren’t necessary for survival and you never have to do that alone.

Do you:

  • Experience guilt and shame surrounding food?

  • Obsess over what you eat and what your body looks like?

  • Struggle to stop compulsively weighing yourself?

  • Feel your self-loathing is interrupting your everyday life?

  • Struggling with a mind consumed with body-checking, calorie counting, and exercise?

  • Catch yourself in the cycle of binging, purging, restricting and overexercising?

  • Feel out of control around food?

  • Withdraw or isolate from others?

  • Avoid photos or getting a glimpse of yourself in the mirror?

“Body acceptance is not “letting yourself go.” It’s shifting the focus from “hating” your body to “caring” for it.
— Bree Lenehan

Issues I address:

  • Avoidance

  • Binge-eating recovery

  • Body Dysmorphia

  • Emotional eating

  • Obsessive thoughts regarding food, body, etc.

  • Orthorexia recovery

  • Over-exercising

  • Restrictive eating or dieting

  • Recovery support

My approach to addressing your concerns is for people of all genders, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and body sizes. I work from an anti-diet and a Health At Every Size (HAES) approach. This can seem daunting to many as your behaviors may be your comfort, but I assure you, anti-diet does not mean anti-health. Alongside HAES I incorporate aspects of Intuitive Eating, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
